Add extra bones and controls to HumanIK character?

Is there a way to add any extra bones and controls to a HumanIK character?

I have a character set up and would like to add prop bones, these bones need controls, and while I can run createNode "hikIKEffector" -n "Character1_Ctrl_prop" adding that control to HumanIK Character1 (or otherwise named character) is proving nigh-impossible. I don't need it added to the UI for selection or pinning, but it included in baking to skeleton and baking to Control Rig and hiding the control and bone would be super awesome.

ok scratch the idea of being able to create a node of hikIKEffector type and have it work... it does not update in the viewports (any of them) when moving/rotating unless it is connected to something that's animated.
.... I mean... why would you make it like this? wouldn't it be easier to give us a new type of transform and have it work like a normal transform than to go into the code and forcefully make it not work normally? I get the whole updating FK when you're moving IK takes some special connections but if said connections don't exist, just leave it alone... seriously.
