Add a joint that has no influence on Binds

Dear Maya Community,
i am quite new to Maya but i can already do a lot of things.
But now i need your help 😄
I have an animation where the character is in idle state and holding a weapon.
Now i could need an extra bone that is intended as socket for the weapon.
How can i add a joint that has no influence on the character and the binding or weight painting.
And is it possible to display this joint in a form of a long arrow. I have a rifle and i want to animate that new bone so that holding the rifle on every frame is good. If i would have a long arrow, i can easily adjust the bone's direction on every frame.
Other workflows are also very welcome.
