Why does adjusting multiple tangents moves keys in the graph editor?

In Maya 2024.2 when selecting multiple keys in the graph editor and adjusting their tangent angles, one of the selected keys will move depending on how much horizontal movement your cursor makes during the adjustment.

Adjusting the tangents of the two keys (see above) results in the second later key being moved (see below)

If you move your cursor further along horizontally, the key will be moved even further along the graph editor. The undo action also doesnt apply to this issue. it registers the tangent angle change as an action, but not the movement so it cannot be undone.

I've been having the same issue! I'm surprised I haven't been able to find more people talking about this. This bug makes animating a character super stressful, always having to wrangle your keys as they try to run away! Until this is fixed I'm gonna be switching back to 2023.

in  kriskingXHQJS ' s first image, the key is still selected. and not the tangent ( small yellow cube is...

be sure to use shift, and ctrl to make sure you are selecting only  the tangents.

Hi, I think I encountered this problem and found a solution.
Just in case, here's an illustrative example of how this works in different versions of Maya.

2022.2
Here we just select the keys we want and we can edit the tangents, everything works fine.

2024.2
We perform exactly the same operation, select the keys, want to edit the tangent, and get the key moves, and if we pull it back too far, we get unpredictable results.

Of course, you can select specific tangents as suggested by @stephenkmann  and then the problem will be solved, but personally for me it is wildly inconvenient and time-consuming.

Solution
Edit - Transformation Tools - Move Keys Tool (setting) - Move option - Move only
This change will prohibit you from moving the key outside of neighboring keys, but will get rid of the problem.
It worked for me, and I hope it helps you.

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! I'll happily take not moving past neighbouring keys over this issue, sometimes it would completely ruin my workflow.
