Parent Controller Rotation Issue

Hello, I've got a character setup that includes an imported object (tail) with it's own joints and control curves. I've parented this group to the main character successfully as it does rotate properly with the body but I'm at a loss as to how to stop the tail joints from rotating (curling) along with the main character controller it is parented to. I've attached a .png file showing what's going on.
I like how the tail stays with the body but I do not want the joints to curl the tail.
