Mesh not following joint

I have an FK joint chain set up. The mesh and joints are generally working, but seem to rotate at different rates. The mesh follows the controller properly, but the joints lag behind. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'd appreciate any help!

This could be due to the lack of edge loops. Add more edge loops and skin again.
