How to use curves in 2014?

I want to make triangles and such for my rigs, what curves tool should I use and how do I use it? I can't find any good videos on them.

You can use any of the curve tools. For example to create the triangle you can go to Create->EP Curve Tool and click its options box. In the options change the Curve degree to 1 Linear and now you can draw out your triangle shape.

You can also use things like NURBS circles to help build custom looking controls.
