How to disable translations and rotations of a hidden mesh?

I have a rig which is playing animations very slowly in the viewport, I found out the reason for this is that the hair mesh is too dense and if were to delete the hair mesh, the rig would playback at regular/good speeds, but if I hid the hair mesh, it's still being calculated in the background,

Is there a way to disable translations and rotations of a  hidden mesh?

Keep in mind the hair is connected to the mesh so freezing the mesh's transforms won't work because it's being influenced by the Nurbs curves

Thanks for the reply, Although that didn't work for me, I found a solution,

I created an assembly definition of the hair, So When I'm animating or viewing the animation I use the cached assembly reference of the hair and whenever I want to render, I use the scene representation mesh. Works great, very responsive.
