Freeze Transform only One Axis?

I'm using Maya 2017,

Is there any way to Freeze or Zero-out only one axis and Not all three X, Y, Z?

Because I've already animated in other axis and I want to Reset X axis to Zero. Right now Maya is not letting me do "Freeze Transform - Translate" because of keyed Channels.

What about the X-axis which is not keyed yet and requires Freezing?

There's no way to do it with the freeze tranforms menu command, but there are definitely workarounds!

One of the easiest methods is by using a group:

1. Create an empty group (Create>Empty Group)

2. change the translateX value of the group match the translateX value of the cube. This will put the group exactly where your cube is.

3. now make the cube a child of the group. That will zero out your X, because it is zero units away from its new parent (the group). The outliner should look like this when you're done:

parent_group.png

for extra safety, I like to lock all the transforms on the group after that, so you can't accidentally move or rotate the group.

Let me know if you need more clarification on that, or if you have any trouble getting it to work!

Hi!

You can't use Freeze Transform here, move the pivot manual and bake it.
