I did the same operation and found nothing unusual. I suggest you try.
  • Try resetting the Reset tool.
  • If that does not help, try closing Maya, backing up Maya's Pref folder, exporting the hotkey, then deleting the original Pref folder and restarting Maya.
I think this will fix the problem.

Basically, the rigging work for adding joints is done in the orthographic view. This way you can easily create joints in the desired position. I hope this helps.

Even I'm facing the same problem. I'm not sure why the projected center isn't working while creating the joints. I tried resetting the tools, deleted the prefs folder, and set it to default. But still, the projected center isn't working.

Hi! @deepakrajanimator .

I'm sorry about that.

I have confirmed this problem reproduced and solution. After selecting the object in object mode and enabling Make the selected object(s) live, I was able to add the joint after activating Projected centering from the Joint Tool options menu. Please give it a try. This will probably require some fine-tuning of the joint position with the D key. I hope this helps.

Best,

1. select object1. select object2. turn on the Make the selected object(s) live2. turn on the Make the selected object(s) live3. turn on the Projected centering3. turn on the Projected centeringdone.done.

Hi @amaterasu-qbb

Thanks for helping me with the "make live" option. I have been creating my joints using this option when the projected center wasn't working... but the workaround is kind of taking extra time for the fingers 😄 But Thanks for suggesting this option.

I fixed the issue by just installing the Maya 2023 version and it is working fine 😄 I guess something should be wrong with my Maya 2024. Re-installing or installing a different version is the solution for now in such a case 😄

Hi! @deepakrajanimator , @barracuda250685 ,

I hope you are doing well. You are right, it did not work well in my environment with Maya 2024 and Maya 2024 Creative, which are also freshly installed. I mean make the selected object(s) live... to get good results.

If you like, please share the details of your problem with Autodesk by going to Feedback>Report a Problem... in Maya's Help menu. I will contact Autodesk and let them know as well. Here's the link that opens when you run the Report a problem...

https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

I will follow up on Autodesk's research and post here if I have any new information.

Thanks.

Just FYI, it's a confirmed bug in 2024

So I tried the solution of making the geometry live, but that made the joints stick to the outside surface of the geometry instead of the "projected center".  That was better than having them be down on the xz floor, but not by much.

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry about this unfortunate defect in Maya.  This issue has been reported and fixed:

MAYA-129028  Snap to Projected Center is not working when creating joints

The fix will be included in a future release of Maya.

Best regards,

Kelly
