I have object that is its own group (character with walk cycle) i want to attach it to a spline or path

Is Attach to motion path the right way of doing this , keeps saying it already has an input connected.

All the tutorials online are how to animate with a motion path but I can't seem to find any on attaching a animated object to a path

Any advice

Hi!

You should be able to animate the character walk cycle only with the body rig, and make it walk with the top root.

It is this top root that you need to attach to the motion path.

It should maintain its animation while the root is following the path.

Hope it helps!
