Animation retargeting deformations

Hi, I'm trying to retarget an animation to a different skeleton/model. When doing so, the target model gets deformed at different parts (more on hands and legs). I might be doing something wrong or missing a step, I followed the official topic on the user guide. First, I imported the base model with the animation on it (as a .FBX) then the target model (also a .FBX), both scaled at the approximately same proportions with 3DS Max. I create the rig definition on the HumanIK window for both models, then choose on "Source", "Character1" (base model) on "Character2" (target model). Could it be because the base model isn't in a T-Pose (most parts aren't parallel) ? Thank you in advance, sorry for my weak english.
