Hello,
I have a part that im running and I have programmed and machined the 1st operation. Now I need to flip it over and run the second side. My question is how do I flip the part and set up my wcs for the second (and eventually third) side in HSM? Do I need to start a new job or is there an option to just start a new operation?

Hi @chargiss,
For every side operation on a 3-axis machine, you start with a Setup.
Within that setup, you decide from which side you like to machine the part.
If you operate on a 4 or 5-axis machine you can use tool orientation to rotate the part or spindle to operate from a other direction.

you can also make your own coordinate system and use those, do this all the time in HSMWorks assemblies where I do 90% of my CAM work, occationally I'll program in a part but prefer assemblies.
not sure which software you are using, CON-Fusion 360, IVCAM or SW+HSMWorks
I'm using HSM+Solidworks. Can you tell me how to create my own coordinate system and how I can change the view with regards to my part to match the coordinate system I create?
I understand the machining concept. That's not where I'm having trouble. I'm asking how I set the work coordinates and the respective view for my second and third operations.

So as I stated I use assemblies to machine in HSMWorks and the reason is that you do not have to modify the part making it fatter or changing it in the global assemblies it is used in which most large companies do not like if you are an internal machine shop. If you are a contrator then it's up to you to decide which works best.
on other thing is in an assembly you can make you material, boundry sketches, coordinate systems and different configurations of the same part to use for other operation by supressing or filling features to avoid areas during machining.
now with all that said making a coordinate system is simple, you can use any point\verticy as the location and edges and face to aline the XYZ direction. I usaully make a sketches all aroung my part for placing coordinates. here is one I just did, neede to make a repair part for our belt\disc sander, it's a bearing block for the disc shaft.
you can see all the coordinates around the part. I did do this one in a part file as it was me doing it.
