Performance - Is your PC fast or slow?

HSMWorks has been highly optimized for multi-CPU/core PCs. But if you run HSMWorks on old hardware you might not be benefiting fully from the potential. If you find that you are waiting for a long time for the toolpath to generate you can test if your PC is out of date. To do so you just need to run our performance testing utility available at http://www.hsmworks.com/performance/.

You can compare ratings for different PC generated using the same version of the performance utility. You CANNOT compare ratings across different versions of the utility. New PCs should have a rating of 350 or above when using the r21323 version.

The following rating was generated for a PC with an Intel i5-760 CPU (with 4 cores).

It reports overall PC rating: 624.1 :o, even though I have only single Intel Core i7-2600 at 3.5 GHz.

That's very nice. Is it by any chance the unlocked k-version (i7-2600k)?

We have a i7-2600k @ 3.4GHz here, and it gets 605, so that's fairly consistent with your score at 3.5GHz.

It is standard version, not a "k", only slightly overclocked.

Ok, the overclock should only account for about 17 in score, and so the remaining 5-10% down to the other i7-2600's on this thread can only be accounted for by the more powerful Z68 chipset, or perhaps you have a more powerful cooling solution allowing the processor and/or chipset to dynamically overclock more.

Neat. Gabe, you have to start making some complex molds with that kind of power 🙂

Can you send me the generated report text file to support@hsmworks.com?

462.5 on my brand new Lenovo W520 laptop

i7-2760QM
16gb ram
Quaddro 2000M

I'll mess around with the bios probably and see if I can get higher - I know there's a lot of throttling that goes on by default.

Actually that's in line with what I'd expect from that CPU, as it scores 2,088 points on www.cpubenchmark.net, while the latest CPU's get upwards of 10,000 points.

But whether this is fast enough or not of course depends entirely on what you are doing.

To buy or not to buy..
How fast are the new Intel IvyBridge processors compared with similar but older Sandy Bridge models tested using HSMWorks PC Performance utility?
We like to upgrade our Core 2 duo computers and have to decide between those two.

i7-3610QM 2.3GHz 8 GB ram. Not bad for a $1000.00 Inspiron
