Performance - Is your PC fast or slow?

HSMWorks has been highly optimized for multi-CPU/core PCs. But if you run HSMWorks on old hardware you might not be benefiting fully from the potential. If you find that you are waiting for a long time for the toolpath to generate you can test if your PC is out of date. To do so you just need to run our performance testing utility available at http://www.hsmworks.com/performance/.

You can compare ratings for different PC generated using the same version of the performance utility. You CANNOT compare ratings across different versions of the utility. New PCs should have a rating of 350 or above when using the r21323 version.

The following rating was generated for a PC with an Intel i5-760 CPU (with 4 cores).

I just picked up an older HP Z800 works station so I though I would share my results of the performance test.

Details:

  • 2x Xeon X5560 - 2.8GHz processors

  • 24GB ECC RAM

  • NVidia Quadro 4000

Wow, I didn't read through all five pages of posts, but this is incredible. If you don't mind, post the specs/details of your system.

Anthony wanted me to post this here so off we go. This is from a Dell T3610
E5-1650v2 CPU
16g 1866 memory
Quadro K2000
Samsung 256gb 850Pro SSD

Nothing has been done to it except I added the Samsung drive. Bought from the Dell Outlet site and with the added SSD total cost was a little over $1,800.00. patient shopping yields rewards here.

Found out about this thread, and the benchmark, last week.

My company Dell M6800 laptop (i7, base 2.9Ghz, 16GB RAM, Win 7)
Score 650.7

And my home computer. Asus motherboard, 4.0Ghz i7, 16GB RAM, Win 10
Score 740

Your Dell will be a newer gen i7 though, right? So although it has a lower clock speed, it may have a faster bus speed & more cache etc?

No - the Dell M6800 is the 5th generation i7 with DDR3 Memory.

However, since my son works for a small IT company, and is into gaming and overclocking, we played a little.

Below are the results of the 6th generation 4.0 Ghz i7, overclocked to 4.15 Ghz, with 16GB of DDR4 memory

Would be great if there is a Inventor HSM database update.

Toolpath calculation speed are a bit different in IHSM and Especially simulation can be quite power hungry (calculation stock, collisions). Also working with a "stock from solid" brings a delay in loading the simulation. Would be great to see what the impact is of a graphics card/cpu.

Boy I hope not. I have a new build coming up as soon as my cooler adapter for AM4 gets here and I would LOVE to see the numbers that puts out!

Pretty sure you were using the pc during the parallel since that took way too long compared to the others.

Well I haven't. Maybe I was moving the mouse from left to right while I was waiting but who knows I'll run it again later.

Haha,

Maybe it decided it was time to start moving some files around. Or something like that.

My workstation at the office is a Xeon as well. The score also sucks. I'll get this score today sometime and share it here.

Why the score sucks with Xeon cpu's?
Anyways, my Xeon rocks! 🙂
