So i used 2d adaptive to mill out 1.125" bearing holes with a 1/4" flat end mill double flute, i have measured the bit and it is .251' so it should be good, stock to leave is turned off, smoothing is on so it uses arcs(doesnt seem to work b/c i can see line corners in the bearing hole). the hole is supposed to be 1.125" but it ends up being 1.111" (14 thousands difference(lots of reaming)) also i don't thing my mill is the problem b/c it goes from a point to another accurately within 5 thousands over 10"(tested with a dial probe). My school's mill is a bolton tools xqk9630s controlled by a GSK980mda1 controller.

Have you run a 2D contour or a bore operation to see if that cleans up the hole.

2D adaptive shouldn't be used for finishing op anyway.

 

though your machine goes line to line within .005, circular interpolation is another story, my old VF0 HAAS does linear just fine but I have to use cutter comp for bores to hit the numbers, usually comp the tool -.011 and then can hit bores all day, the new HURCO hits the bore spot one without comp, every machine is different.

 

your mill might be in the same boat as my VF0.

Yeah adding compensation was what I was going to do but I wanted to know could I add the comp into the machine rather than the program?

Yes I was talking about comp at CNC.

you have to set CAM comp to wear but it all depends if your CNC allows cutter comp.

Awesome just looked through photos and found this so it looks like it will work, I need to start using a tool library anyway, It would make everything more simple than constantly rehoming the z every time I switch between my end mill and drill.

Also thank you so much for the help, I had to team the crap out of my bearing holes , 24 of them btw, and 14 thousandths felt like a lot of material to team lol.( it’s for FTC robotics drivetrain btw, we are doing a pre season game for practice)

I don't read anytging about a finishing op.

 

Adaptive is and will always be a very rough roughing operation. try to use Bore or 2Dcontour to finish a bore/pocket.

 

And oh, tool deflection is a thing, so make sure to use cutter comp or some negative stock to leave if you can't use cutter comp.
