Turning Profile lead out suitable for part off

Hi

I'm just starting to use HSM for turning.

I'd like to have a 3mm flat area on the back of the part so that the part off blade contacts a flat surface.

I can't seem to get it to do this with any of the lead out options so I've resorted to modelling the flat in.

Any tips on how this is usually achieved?

Hi @Anonymous , try turning on roughing passes. I think it will do what you want.roughing passes.JPG

Hi Jason

I have roughing on but still get the same result. I'm using a radiused diamond turning tool.

Your corners look very square, is that flat lead out just the tool profile? For instance my tool path below ends with the shape of the tool i'm using.

Hi @Anonymous , I am on 2019 so I could not open your file. I attached  a simple part that I think does what you want.

Thanks for the file. I see you're using roughing to achieve this and that seems to work for me.

If I select finishing I get the results I posted earlier.
