I've heard the probing option is $18k for the Okuma over Haas' $6k. Can anyone confirm that? Also, how much does Okuma charge for thru spindle coolant for the 560?

Okuma always charges a lot for probing on any machine. Not sure why it is so expensive with them. But I believe that 18k is a value that can be negotiated where the Haas price is not. The Haas price for the probing is because of their special deal with Renishaw.

 

Thru spindle coolant for Okuma's is a little hard to say since usually this is partly a machine cost, and partly a coolant/chip conveyor cost with them.

So I wouldn't know. But it's most definitely going to be more than on a Haas.

If you're in the US, IMTS is in Chicago this year and I always hear about great deals, so that would be the time and place to get a quote.

 

Also the Okuma is going to be massively more productive than a Haas, so think of how fast it will be amortized instead of the up-front cost.

 

Edit: it should also be noted that prices change due to factors such as currency value fluctuations and supply chain costs so you're better off getting a quote. If the Yen is doing poorly vs the dollar, the machine will be cheaper, and vice versa, which is why quotes are time-limited.

 

TL;DR: get a quote from Okuma.
