Thermal and lighting analysis

Hello,

my procedure for analyzing the thermal and lighting performances of a building is export my Revit model to Ecotect. But I believe Ecotect is no longer available. So what can I do to analyze those performances?

Assume you have provided a software or plug-in, will the input and output be same as the Ecotect?

I have uploaded the procedure that I have to do in Ecotect, please have a look and see the new thing you may provide can generate me the same thing.

I uploaded two files, the first one is my model in Revit, the second one is my procedure of doing it. In the second file, you may go to page 4 4.2, that is where Ecotect being applied.

Wei Xian.

If you are using Revit 2017 or 2018, take a look at the Analyze Tab.

There are a few tools here-- Heating & Cooling Loads, Create Energy Model, Energy Settings, etc.

Hello,

now I need to add heating and cooling load, although there is only cooling load in my project.  Before this, I have to create spaces and zones. And I have created, but there is 9-meter square left cannot be created and I do not know where it is. Also, I tried to make the 213 and 187-meter square into one same zone and 42 and 43 meters square into another one same zone, but I do not know how to do it.

In fact, I also create enclosed rooms. Because I was trying to export to Ecotect and it is a requirement. However, I just found out there is no more Ecotect. Instead, we use Isight. So, I wonder do I have to create enclosed room to do heating and cooling load or any energy analysis.

Lastly, the main concern of my project is thermal and lighting performances. The above is for thermal performance. How about lighting performance, which one is the one I can use to analyze lighting performance of my building.

Also, initially I suppose to use Ecotect, and I am forced to use tools in Revit. I wonder will the output be same as the output in Ecotect.

Appreciate your reply and explanation and helps!

Wei Xian.

Hi @Anonymous

Here is some good documentation to get you started using Insight. In order to use the Insight Lighting Analysis tools and the Heating and Cooling Loads tool you need to first install the plugin (if you haven't already done that). Insight Downloads

This page will explain how to create a good Revit model for energy analysis: About the Energy Model

Before running the Insight Heating and Cooling Loads you have to first generate the Insight energy analysis.

Good info responses so far.

For Lighting and Solar, please refer to the other Forum section. The main posts are pinned to the top:

Also, as you appear to be an advanced user, you should check out Dynamo and the Optimo Packag, the Ladybug Package, and the Solar Package.  There are also some basic Daylighting nodes in Dynamo.  The latter two are demonstrated in my prior-year AU presentations 'Come to the Light' and 'How Much is Zero.'

And here is a link to some Lighting and Daylighting videos I created for Autodesk last year:
