Here's the process for replacing Appearance Assets:

Edit Glazing Steps.png

  1. Go to the Materials Browser, either through Manage > Materials, or by selecting the element or family with the material you want to change
  2. Navigate to the material.
  3. Click to edit the material to open the Materials Browser panel
  4. Go to the Appearance tab (remember, this is the appearance that is used for Rendering and the Lighting tool, NOT the Graphics properties that control what the model looks like in Revit).
  5. Click the 'Replace Asset' button to open the Asset Browser panel.
  6. Go to the library folder for Appearance Library, then click on Glazing (top level Glazing is the 'new' Glazing, and the 'old' Glazing is under Glass > Glazing).
  7. Find an Asset that is approximately what you want, then click the Replace Asset button to bring it into your material.
  8. If the Asset is used with another material, any edits will affect the other materials as well, so always click on the 'Duplicate Asset' button before editing an asset (unless you want it to change globally).
  9. Tweak the Glazing settings to get the Visible Transmittance you want, and optionally define a Transmissive Roughness to get a diffusing effect (regular clear glass will have no Roughness)
'Backface Culling' should always be checked on, and Reflective Color should generally be left at the default (15 to 40 RGB).

Could you please elaborate on this step about "tweaking" the glazing VT. Is the Transmissive Color setting similar to the old materials where your RGB determined your VT. What equation or table can I refer to determine the VT?

Also, if this is the case where RGB still determines your VT then why can't I use the old materials? Is there a compatibility problem with the old materials and V4.0.4.3 I'm using Revit 2023.
