Solidworks

We are looking at purchasing a number of licences of Inventor, currently we have, in the order of 2000, models built in Solidworks. We are wondering what the model might be to have these converted/imported available to be used and modified, ultimatley converted to Inventor models.

Hi - There are several options depending on how you want to maintain the models.

1. Open the file in Inventor and choose Convert Model. This will turn it into an Inventor file type, but you will lose all of your model history. Inventor has a pretty good direct editor that allows you to make changes to a featureless model. Check out the Guided Tutorial on Direct Edit for more information.

2. Open the file in Inventor and select Reference Model. This lets you use the file in Inventor, but the file is still edited in Solidworks. Any changes you make in SWX appear in the Inventor model. This scenario requires you to maintain at least one seat of SWX to edit the files.

3. Pay Elysium to convert the models. Their software converts features in the SWX file to Inventor features.   www.elysiuminc.com

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Paul
