Use iLogic to prevent access?

I am trying to find a way to prevent certain users from seeing certain parts within an assembly. I have thought of a few ways, none of which I am particularly happy with. One thing that has been buzzing round my mind whilst thinking of methods is "I'm sure iLogic could do this"..... So, I have had iLogic training, I have written basic code, but this was a fair few years ago now so I am struggling to think of ways to implement my idea. My idea is, to restrict access to a certain model state/view rep that shows all parts then have another that is freely accessible with some parts removed. Producing the model states/view reps is no problem but is it possible for iLogic to control the security in the way I would like it to? I was thinking maybe only certain user names have access....or maybe a password required??

iLogic is not the right way how to protect your data. Because iLogic is just a add-in and user can disable them and this is end of your protection.

If you need to send the data to someone else, export the model to neutral format (step, iges, svf, ...) without models you want to hide.

Thanks for the response, this is exactly why I have been going round in circles with it myself. As you say, once the file is open then anyone with an understanding of how the security was implemented can remove it.

Its not a case of hiding things from third parties, I need to control who can see what within the company.

You should not handle file access restrictions with inventor. You should use the Vault for this kind of file access restrictions. Even with the free version of the Vault (Vault Basic is available only with a subscription to the Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection.) you can set file access restrictions.

The only way is save the file as another one and remove the info (model state, feature, note etc) you don't want other to see.

Then only allow them access to that file.

Think about it let Word document.

You're trying to hide a page or sentence.

The program just don't have such fine feature access control.

The only access control is file, you can see the file or not.

Sorry, I should have made it clear that I had already suggested using Vault to do this, as we did in the previous company I worked for. The new company's existing staff don't like this suggestion and as 'the new boy' (all be it with 30 years experience) I am struggling to get my points across.

Hire supervisors standing behind each CAD users.

With taser in hand.

Vault only have file access control.  It can't lock features in the file.

Even with Vault locking the file, user can copy local file and edit it anyway.

I don't think there is anyway to do it in near future.

AutoDESK need to implement feature control in the software.
