Inventor 2020 and Usertools.msi question

I believe the question I have would fall within this group, if not I apologize.

I had too have IT install "Usertools.msi" due to admin rights.  The install went okay but when I look in the Add-In Manager, nothing is showing up. It did in fact create a folder in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2020\SDK\UserTools" and sub-folders that contain the different tools.

Question is, do I run them from their folders or how do I get them into Inventor ribbon tab?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I do not use this collection of tools, but I had a look. It appears that running the usertools.msi only creates the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2020\SDK\UserTools directory with the tools living inside. The addins appear to predate registry free addins as introduced with Inventor 2012.

I do not remember whether the old (registry) addins are still supported. If they are, getting the addins would be as easy as installing the ones that you would like to use. For example, you would install the DerivedPart_SP addin by running the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2020\SDK\UserTools\DerivedPart_SP\Install.bat file. This may require admin privileges. If this works, the DerivedPart_SP addin would appear in the addin manager, buttons would be added to relevant toolbars, etc.

If installing the addins using the old method does not work, you will have to research migrating these to registry free. This may help: https://modthemachine.typepad.com/my_weblog/2012/02/migrate-net-add-ins-to-registry-free.html.

Thank s, alewer

The information you supplied is very helpful.

I agree, I see some of the tools now within the add-in manager in Inventor 2020.

Thank you again!
