Inserting Assembly Process Flow diagram into inventor drawing

Hi All,

Not sure how many of you are familiar with SolidWorks Treehouse, but I would like to do something based of this idea in Inventor. I would like a graphic very similar in style to the one shown below on the second page of a drawing set, that shows how the different parts are put together into sub-assemblies, which then go into the main assemblies. I think the technical term might be assembly process flow drawings. Iterating through the BOM, and extracting the data I think is reasonably simple, the two parts that I think I'm unsure about are:

1. What's the best way to create the graphics, I could foreseeably make this work in autoCAD, but a more polished solution would be ideal. As an outside idea, I also wonder whether the easiest way might be to just draw the process as an automated 3D model

2. What's the best format to insert it into a drawing view. Would a graphic work? an excel sheet would possibly be an option, but I would like something a little more polished then is as well I think

If anyone has an thoughts or experience with this, it would be much appreciated

Kind Regards

Creating all those images and then adding them to a sheet and adding text. That could be very complicated. But his looks like a (structured) bom. (something like this)

Why not use the (structured) bom. It's always up-to-date and does not require a lot of programing.

The idea is the graphic will be shown on one of the A2 drawing sheets that shows the construction details for a major assembly. As such there's a number of size constraints where a standard BOM format just isn't efficient. I would also like a format that's a bit more intuitive and easier to read. I don't need to show a ton of detailed information, it's probably as simple as just quantities, part numbers and a very simple descriptor.

Based on this I think my current approach is going to be create a script that creates the diagram as a 3D model. There will be a significant amount of coding in this, but I think I'll just chip away at it. Staying within inventor means I can pull in derived models of the assembly stages if I decide to go down that route for added polish.

Anyway, I haven't been able to find anything to copy or emulate that's similar to what I want so I guess I'm starting from scratch

Kind Regards
