ilogic - pdf out - drawings & parts

Looking at some of the examples about for exporting to pdf I've noticed to export the part, the code is pretty simple ( one line) but to export a drawing there are many lines ( & these look .NETish or VBAish - still on the learning curve & not sure how to describe them, oDoc..this & that).

What is the explanation for this?

Part of my confussion is being unable to output to pdf using the single line of code - this does work now I have the part and the drawing open. It wouldn't work when only the drawing was open.

I love posting  - straight after posting things start working! - wish I knew why, but my external rule, saved in a template is now saving a copy to pdf when the .dwg is closed.
