I-LOGIC CODE

Before anyone says haven't you had formal training the answer is NO my company doesn't believe in it so yes I ask a lot of stupid questions or for help, so with that out of the way.

I have this floating nut plate that I created as two separate parts and then assembled. I know I can't place into content center (wish I could) as I could do this with a ton of other parts.

So my questions are

1. How to write the code?  I haven't written code since DOS and it was extremely simple code.

I'm sure this code will be easy but I'm really really at a loss.

2. Can I share with rest of the team?

We don't have the vault yet and who knows when that will happen.

I know the quick simple fix is to build and place in content center as individuals but I'm hoping to avoid that as I have a TON more nut plates to make along with other hydraulic combinations that would be useful in I Logic.

Thanks

Renee

My question back to you..

What do you want this code to do?

iLogic is very simple to start with..  No programming experience needed.  Yes if you get into knee deep coding and start using VB/.net function than you need some background.

Inventor version to?

THe numbers in both the i parts need to match. We just need to be able to pull the right nutplate size for the job and retain part number ie MS21059-04

I don't see any reason to write any code..

Simply manually create the iparts with the correct member numbers.. Then create the iassembly with the correct member numbers.. Done..

Both can be achieved VERY quickly by editing the table in excel vs the default ipart table and just quickly creating new versions..

I understand that but I can't put into content center. I was really hoping to be able to go to content center pull assy needed but I guess this option will never be available.

Thanks anyhow

I don't use content center (so I could be missing something obvious) but I fail to see why what you want can't be created then put into content center..

That is true, but everything else about @mcgyvr's instructions is correct.  If you just create a Library folder to store your iParts and iAssemblies instead of using Content Center, then what you're trying to do can be achieved completely without writing any code.  I have several items in my company's library that work essentially the same way (hydraulic bulkhead fittings, hose clamps, etc.).

I'm not saying that this can't be done with some iLogic code and Content Center, but that isn't your only option.

My fault.. After you said CC again I assumed you wanted each part in the CC and not the iassemblies..

Any reason you need to model it as an iam?

Do you purchase those in separate parts? Probably not right.. you just buy the whole assembly as a single line item..

If not model as one part and publish and call it a day..

Or derive the iam to an ipt and publish? <-- goofy sure.. I would just make it a single part if I really wanted to use CC and I didn't need to purchase each part on its own which I don't think you do..
