Custom Material Library Appearance Information

I am creating a new Custom Library. However when I duplicate a material & change the name, it also creates a duplicate name with a (1) number on the end. ie Beige(1), Beige(2).... Is there away to eliminate this?

Hi Bill,

In Material Library, No Appearance must not match existing Appearance name. Due to this fact, when any Material Appearance is duplicated from existing Appearance. Names of duplicated Appearance always ends with (1) and subsequent number like (2), (3).... (n).

Duplicated Appearance can be renamed to desire name.

Chandra,

Thanks for your answer. I tried renaming them but it gave me a reply message of “The name is already in use.  Please enter a unique name). This is fine if your want a new color name which is what I wanted on some. The question now is, what if you want to use the same color & name on the new material that was duplicated? It seems to not want to accept that all the time. Sometimes it will. I have even checked to make sure that the Color RGB numbers are the same and they are.

Thanks.

Bill

Chandra,

Attached are two examples. One Successful and the other not. The successful one, I would prefer to be able to call it Dark brown as well as additional material and not have to give it a unique name for each material.

Here is the task that I have been assigned to do. Our design team wants me to create a library of materials with each size being different colors as well. for example, all the C3 Channel sizes one Color and all the C6 channel sizes another color. that way the material can be identified by the size by visually looking at it.

Thanks

Bill

Hi Bill,

There is no issue with renaming to Blue Grey(Light) (19). Please see the below image.

Might be same material already exists in Inventor of your system.

Please feel free to contact if there is any doubt.

Yes I know that. But really I just want one version of Blue Grey (Light) over multiple materials. I don’t see the point of having the (19) in the color over multiple materials when it is the same RGB Color.

Hi Bill,

If that is the case, Go with "Blue Grey (light) + Material name".
