Hi,

I'm just curious...

Dear Rossano,

I mean an API which able to convert Inventor file (especially in .iam or idw files) to text file (conversion without the need of Inventor).

For alternative, conversion can be direct from Inventor too, which mean have a add-in in Inventor, which able to save file to .txt format.

Sorry, if the explaination is not clear, as I'm not familiar for programming language, anyway will try my best to explain it. Are you interested in this? 🙂

Best regards,

Huam SK

Hi Huam, seems to be interesting.
I'm sorry, but I need more informations.

Now, Inventor have the capability to Export/SaveAs in many file formats, most of them are composed by plain text.

For example (exportable by Inventor):
- .STP/STEP file format is composed by plain text (www.steptools.com)
- .X_T parasolid text format file, uses the formatting structure of the iges standard (is not the same faile format) and is plain text container
- .xgl file stores 3D models in XML OpenGL API text format
- .igs/iges is an other standard which contain records of 80 chars of plain text
- .neu is a Pro/Engineer neutral file (plain text)
- .sat (ACIS) contain plain text

Some other possible solution for exporting inventor files (without Inventor):
- Etc.....

As I said, can you tell me more details about your requirements?

Why would you like to use .TXT for development purposes?

If you like, I can give you my help as consultant (for free) or (if we define an interesting solution) I can develop this software for you (for money).

For more details, please send me a private message.

Dear Rossano Praderi,

We have tried to export the assembly into others format, such as SAT & Iges, which is in text format, but it didn't have the information that we need. The fields that we are looking at are such as part number, description, quantity and etc which we can't get it in SAT or Iges format, and this is why we need an API which able to query (or convert?) the information we need direct from Inventor native files.

Hope you understand what I mean. 😄 Btw, you can private message me your email address.

Best regards,

Huam SK

I was never been contacted.
I thought he was a more professional person as "Operations Manager" of an "Autodesk Silver partner".

I'm disappointed Mr.SoonKheng HUAM (http://phitomas.com/).
