Trying to customize & simplfy content center bolts

I would like to create a simplified content center bolt to be used in large assemblies.  I've saved a copy of the standard "Hex Bolt - Inch" as "Hex Bolt (Inch)" and I've made it independant so that it's not linked back to the original bolt.  I then used "open from content center" to open one of my new bolts, saved a copy of it on my desktop and edited the copy to remove the thread feature, the fillet under the head of the bolt and the chamfer on the end.  Afterward I went back into the content center editor and used "replace family template" on my custom bolt and browsed to the simplified bolt I just created.  I get a message saying that the info was published to the library.  When I try to place the bolt I get the following error:

"Unable to successfully update the member part file.   Thread feature could not be found".

Why am I get this error?  Is there a way to fix this without going back and adding threads to my bolt?

Hi, you can try to keep the thread feature in the part, but turn it off instead of deleting.

Another option would be making the diameter of the bolt smaler, e.g: (I'll use metric bolt for example)

You want bolt M10, which has diameter 10 mm.

So, we'll make it 9, add the thread feature and then we'll add another Extrusion or Rotation with diameter 10 to cover the thread.

This way it HAS the Thread feature, but it doesn't exist in the visible model.
