Template locations in 2013

How do I set up the templates in 2013? we just migrated from 2012 and now some of the templates are not showing up. When we installed the vault we created a drive that the vault resides in. The templates also reside on this drive but outside of the vault. in 2012 when  I selected the icon to create a new part/assy/drawing I would get the following drop down menu:

2012 drop.JPG

now in 2013 we have a new and imporved splash screen with more options, I think:

drop down.JPG

However as you can see, there is nothing to choose. If I use the drop down arrow there is some help, but not much as I have the 4 standard part, assy, drawing and project icons appear. We have used the options menu and changed the file search paths to point to our template folder but we still do not have any options in the new menu and the drop still does not show options for sheetmetal or square parts. The drawing does open with the correct template though. I have also opened each template in 2013 and saved it so it should be migrated to the new format. but that has not helped.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to set up the ned splash menu to work?

Thank you

To configure the templates path you can do it as below:

1. Application default templates:

In Inventor 2013 you can setup the default templates from Application Options->File->Default templates.

2. Inventor project templates:

In current active Inventor project, you can set the templates folder from Folder Options->Templates. The Inventor project templates will override the application templates if you change it, as default it will use the same templates as application specifies.

The issue was that even though I went through the above described steps, the templates were not populated in the shown screen. After a couple of reboots, they did start showing up. However now the sheetmetal rule giving the different thicknesses of sheetmetal does not work so I will have to recreate the whole thing.

Starting to regret upgrading more each day.

You said "However now the sheetmetal rule giving the different thicknesses of sheetmetal does not work so I will have to recreate the whole thing.", I am not sure why this happens but can you double check that the template you use is the one you changed its rule? To check this you can just open the template file directly and see if it is using the sheet metal rule you specified.

Rocky,

When I open the sheetmetal template to check the sheetmetal rule I get 2 options from the pull= down box : default and default-mm. I have looked for more templates in the folder and all I find are Sheet Metal.ipt and STANDARD-Sheet Metal.ipt and both templates provide the same lack of sheetmetal rule. I am not sure why but the rule we created appears to have gone missing. I am not sure where to look to find it.

Thank you

Rocky,

Another issue I am seeing with drawings that is probably related is that the styles editor seems to be changed as the following warning appears when We start drawings

warning.JPG

Everything seems to be related to the drawings or parts not looking at the same location for information as before. I am unsure how to correct this.

Thank you

Hi Jim,

For the template which is lack of the rule you created, can you tell how you created the custom template? Seems you are using the templates from a remote location, are you sure you placed the custom template there, maybe need to double check it?

And for the style dialog, can you check that the template had been migrated to current version? You may have to make sure you are using the templates provided by the current Inventor. If you want to use previous version templates you can open and save them to make sure they have been migrated to current version.
