Hi,
I'm creating a custom library for my self. I have created an i part and I have a custom parameter in it. My problem is I'm not able find a solution how to add my custom parameter to my file name automatically. Same as structural parts from content center which automatically adds length or some other input to the file name. Kindly give me solution for this.

Thanks,

I know there's a convoluted method of dong this inside inventor and it's tables. I don't know if it works with custom fields, though I don't see why it wouldn't.

Regardless, I do what you're talking about (i think).

However, i just set up inventors ipart to have all the fields i need - then export to excel. Use excel to do all the heavy lifting. Save. Close. It updates back to Inventor. Concatenate will string togehter all the fields you want into the name field. Powerful, easy, and quick.

Hi Mslosar,

Thanks for the effort, but the Excel idea doesn't work for my conditions because I want add my ipart to content center and I can't predefine the length of the part. So this will not help.

Thanks,

I think you mis-understand me.

I create the part just as you do and I load it up as an ipart. Doens't matter if you have 1-1000 variation of the part at this point. Usually I have 2 just to make sure it's working correctly.

Once an ipart - you can edit the ipart's table in excel itself.

In excel i use formula's and whatnot to get the entries (specifically the name) to come as I desire.

When you save/close in excel it saves it to the ipart. Once the ipart is complet you send it to the content center.

You can also leave the length of a part to be user input in the ipart and content center - just leave the column as is when you're editing in excel. It's not an issue.
