Overlay two Part views onto each other

Hi,

Is it posible to overlay one part view onto another part view on an IDW using code? Obviously the part view being overlayed should match the coordinate system of the other so that its 100% in place. Any ideas?

If posible could the one part view be locked in position to the other part view?

Any ideas would be great thanks guys!

Cheers

Hi,

Can I know whether you could create such scenario manually in product? If yes, could you share some steps or snapshots? Sorry I am struggling to understand what the requirement is. It will be helpful to have some more description and necessary file/snapshots.

Hi thanks for the reply,

Ok the practical example would be this:

In the situation where parts needs to be flame cut and then machined afterword’s what works really well is Inventor’s derived part technology. The flame cut part is modelled and then derived into another part to create a new one. On this new part the machining is then done in the form of various features that are created to remove material. Ok so you end up with two parts for the two processes which is perfect and two drawings can be generated from that as well.

There has now been a request to show the flame-cut part as an overlay with a dashed line type, on the machined part to show the material removed.

Inventor can only overlay assemblies with positional representations as far as I can tell.

Hope this makes sense?
