Missing "Place Component" in iLogic

In iLogic I can find Replace Component, but I can't find any commands to use
to place a component from disk in my assembly. Am I missing something - or
will I have to make this in pure .NET?

Hi -

Which version of iLogic are you working with?
In 2009, you should be able to find an iLogic Place Component command on the iLogic toolbar.
in 2010, there should be a Place iLogic Component in the dropdown command menu on the Place button on the ribbon.

2010. Yes there is a button on the ribbon but I
would like to make a Rule. The rule should place components in the
assembly.

There is no iLogic function to place a component. iLogic is oriented towards modifying an existing design. You could argue that adding a component falls in that category, but for now that capability is not included.

You can use Inventor API functions in a rule, starting from the ThisApplication and ThisDoc.Document objects.

I'm a new user.  Are the "add component" or "remove component" functions still missing in ilogic?  I thought I was going crazy not being able to find them.......that explains the strange methodologies of using assemblies overloaded with components and then trying to control the suppression of the ones you don't want to see....for example, the playset demo assembly.  Am I incorrect in wanting to change the bill of materials/assembly configuration using ilogic?   Is there a better way to approach the dynamic BOM programmatically?

Craig

done it in other systems but not with Autodesk
