Migrating your Inventor style library between versions without losing customizations: a checklist

Every version jump, the same question comes up: how do I move my custom styles, materials and templates to the new Inventor without losing anything or ending up with duplicate Style Conflict errors. Sharing the sequence that has held up, in case it saves someone a rebuild. Short version: migrate the Style Library and the templates deliberately, on a copy, in this order. 1. Work on a copy of the project and its Design Data folder. Never migrate in place. If anything goes wrong you still have the working set. 2. Set the Style Library use to Read Only on the project (ipj) before you start. This stops Inventor from silently writing half-migrated styles back while you work. 3. Copy the old version's Design Data (the Styles folder and the material/appearance libraries) to a neutral path, then point the new install at it and run it through Style Library Manager to migrate. Doing it through the manager, not by hand-copying into the new Design Data, is what avoids the duplicate-definition conflicts later. 4. Migrate the templates too. The .ipt/.iam/.idw templates carry embedded styles; if you skip them, new files start on old style definitions and you get conflicts the first time they touch the migrated library. Run them through Task Scheduler, Migrate Files. 5. Finally, batch-migrate the existing project files with Task Scheduler so they all reference the new definitions in one pass, rather than migrating one by one on open (which is where mismatches creep in). The piece people skip is step 4, the templates, and it is the one that produces the same style name, two definitions conflict weeks later. What is your sequence for this, and does anyone handle the material and appearance libraries differently from the object styles? Curious where others have been bitten.
