Inventor Automatic Feature Rename

Hi everyone,

Some years ago (version 2011 at the time), I found a plug-in called "Feature Rename" from Allen Gager that I found very handy to quickly identify a feature in the browser.

Basically, it was renaming the feature (extrusions, holes, etc but NOT thicken/offset) giving the values and the fact it was a new body or a combine operation as shown in that video.

First of all, it seems this plug in is no longer supported since 2011.

Secondly, to me it would be particularly handy for quickly identifying the thicken/offset features.

Do you think this could an improvement for next versions?

Thanks for reading me,

Best everyone

David

Hi,

For parts this addin seems to change the visible name:

https://apps.autodesk.com/ACD/en/Detail/Index?id=7057613891666330516&appLang=en&os=Win32_64

For feautures, to me it doesn't sound very essential. Any how, if you really want this you should make an idea in the Autodesk IdeaStation and post the link back here for people to vote on it.

Best,

Alexander

I believe Alan's plug-in was incorporated into later revisions of Inventor.  Hence, why it's no longer supported as a stand alone.

I have his contact information - I can try to contact him and see if that's the case.

Hi @Anonymous and @asiteur,

Thanks for your replies and sorry for the late reaction on my side.

As a matter of fact, I found out the plug-in was indeed incorporated in Inventor in the application options (Tab: part; "Display extended information after feature node name in browser") so it answers my question.

Too bad however that it does not apply to "thicken" features I use a lot in its various forms (new solid, booleans or automating blending), probably it's more complicated than for extrusion, filet, etc features. I will put it in "idea" as @asiteur suggested.

Thanks again, I'll check @Anonymous reply as a solution.
