iCopy Frame Assembly with Frame Generator Parts and iLogic

Hi all. Hoping maybe someone can help lead me in the right direction or offer a bit of advice here.

My coworker and I are working on a project that requires us to model and create drawings for many different frame assemblies. The frame will vary in size but never in shape. Among the parts that will make up each frame assembly are a varying number of vertical support members, depending on the width of the frame. Using iCopy together with Frame Generator and some iLogic has seemed the best route (so far) for this, but please comment if you believe another method may work better.

So far we've managed to:

- Create a frame assembly with an iCopy definition that will update with our skeleton (both the perimeter and vertical members were created with the Frame Generator).

- Using iLogic and Levels of Detail, managed to get the correct number of vertical members to suppress or unsuppress depending on the width of the frame, and have everything display properly in both the Frame assembly (created by Frame Generator) and in our main assembly that is the iCopy definition.

Our trouble begins when attempt to place and pattern the iCopy definition into the overall host assembly. We always get errors with the Levels of Detail and can't get all the instances to show up correctly without opening and rebuilding each one individually. Because of the sheer number of frames we'll eventually have to generate, we hope that is not the only way to do it. This is our first real use of iCopy (which is great) and our knowledge of iLogic is fairly minimal (though we've searched and found quite a bit of great code that we've used or modified slightly).

Does it seem that we're on the right track to accomplish what we need to do here?

Any suggestions as far as workflow goes, or maybe the order in which the iLogic should work - suppression, rebuilds, LoDs (and event triggers, etc)?

The author of this thread http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/level-of-detail-with-ilogic/td-p/3074270 was having the same trouble and errors we are. We tried the external iLogic rule posted there but it did not work in our iCopy host assembly.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions here.

Hi mkau209,

I am trying to do something similar where my frame is a structural element on top of which panels of standard size have to come and fit either with the use of ilogic constraints or some type of icopy command. Now the overall perimeter i.e. width and length of the frame is controlled using a form and i logic has to generate various vertical and horizontal sections to fill up the frame so that the panels which are of fixed width and length can mount on these sections created by ilogic.

Like you I have achieved the part where the skeleton updates which ilogic although I am struggling with icopy definition and suppress/unsuppress section of the code.

Would it possible for you to share the code used in your frame so may be we can come to a solution together.

Thanks in advance.
