Creating a drawing template that contains a part.

I have a part that doesn't need to be adjusted. I have it drawn as I want and I have used iLogic to pull user input data from a form to generate a table. This works great and now I'm ready to save it as a template. I have saved the parts on the network drive in the same place as I will save the template and I have used the replace model reference to make sure its linked to the correct place. This works fine when I'm playing with it, but when I save the drawing as a template and start a new document and run the template, it loses the link to the part and I get this box:

On top of that this only lets me link to one part, when I actually have 2.

Has any managed to create a drawing template with the part already placed in it?

Cheers,

Harvey

Hi @harvey_craig2RCUH.  I believe that is simply the nature of using a true 'Template' together with the 'New' command for starting a new drawing.  If this DrawingDocument is perfect for starting other drawings from, and all the other drawings will need to already include that same referenced model document, then you will likely want to set that File to ReadOnly, or place it in a Library type directory, where Inventor will treat it as ReadOnly, then either 'Copy' that file to create new versions of it, or open it, then use SaveAs to create new versions of it.  The New command, followed by selecting a drawing template process will always expect you to specify which model to put into its drawing views.

The same is true when using SheetFormats.  You can have a drawing Sheet, with Border, TitleBlock, SketchedSymbols, GeneralNotes, and even views already in it, then save that as a SheetFormat.  Then you can use that SheetFormat to add a new drawing Sheet to the current drawing, and that new Sheet will already have all those things in it, but if it contains any views, it will prompt you to ask you what 'model' you want to show in its views.  If there are already views of one or more other 'models' in that drawing (on other sheets), then it will likely include those as ones you can choose from, or browse for a different one.
