Creating a column in an iAssembly that controls the size of a size parameter inside a part

How can I control the size of a part from the iAssembly table? Do I have to do this in iLogic? When generating files for the iAssembly factory, is it capable of running rules before it saves?

Thanks,

Harvey

Hi @harvey_craig2RCUH

Can you give some more context has to what you want to achieve? Generally speaking if it changes it needs to be on the factory table. But you can run internal /external rules on the file to generate data but you must not try and run thes rules once you publish the member.

Any further quering can be done by working through the factory table data from for example an assembly, look at the member, get the factory and query the table.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have since discovered myself that what I was trying to achieve at this point was not possible as errors appear if you try to place an iPart with the rule still running in it.

I have moved on to trying to get iLogic to place a custom iPart. I have opened another question on the forum here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-programming-ilogic/use-ilogic-to-place-custom-ipart/m-p/1282...

I'd appreciate if you could have a look at it.

Thank you very much as always,

Harvey
