constraint precision (accuracy)

I have a U bend with two axes along the straight parts of the U. These two axes will be aligned with (constrained to) two other axes in another part. Obviously the other axes are the "same" distance apart as the ones in the U Bend.
But my question is how close do the distances have to be in order to be sure that the constraint will work? My program will check the two distances, but I doubt that they'll always be exactly the same. But within what accuracy/precision/tollerance does one axis need to be to another axis for a constraint to work?
Hope I've explained it well...
