Access iproperties without opening document or using apprentice

Is there a way to access iproperties without opening the document or using apprentice? If you hover over a file or right click and go through the properties dialog, iproperties are available instantly. There has to be a way to access this like how the file browser can to get iproperties quicker than opening it up through vba or apprentice.

I've looked into things such as accessing structured file storage which seemed promising but I wasn't able to get anywhere.

This does look like what I am looking for, but definitely not easy to implement in VBA
