ISO 3449 - FOPS (Falling Object Protective Structure) Analysis

Hello guys!

I have a customer who has contacted us and he needs to develop FOPS analysis on their vehicle's cabin protective struture.

The analysis is to simulate the drop test like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Syb_cl6fzfY

I found in One Team Source, Nastran Overview presentation, a slide with the example:

Does anyone have any material (tutorial, example file, tips, etc) that will guide how to develop this analysis?

If customer follows the tutorial "Section 17: Ball Impact Exercise" can they develop the FOPS analysis?

Section 17 develops nonlinear transient analysis. Should FOPS be developed with Explicit Dynamics?

Sorry, but no, I don't have any examples you can use.

No, I do not think so. I think some information is missing like, how did they get the values for the time steps setup? How did they get the values for the damping setup? Why was Structural Damping chosen and not Rayleigh Damping? Damping will play an important role in the Post Impact analysis. How far does something bounce back?

I think both analysis types can be used, but an Explicit Dynamics will be faster in terms of computation time.
