Hi all,
Is it possible to use Femap as a pre-/postprocessor for the Inventor Nastran solver - through the Inventor Nastran editor? - to use the CHEXA "brick" element definition that is in the Inventor Nastran solver reference guide?
(in other words: can Femap be the work around needed for as long as Inventor Nastran in itself fails to support the "brick" elements asked for in idea-station since 2015? - Allow 3D brick elements - Autodesk Community)
We would like to be able to use 20 node hex elements in situations where tets prove to react to stiff.
Regards,
Jaap

Yes, FEMAP can and is used by others as a pre/post processor for Inventor Nastran. FEMAP does have the ability to write out most setups to a deck file that works with Autodesk Nastran. I know there is a couple of things that don't work right, but they aren't common things, so I can't remember what they are at the moment.
And yes, you should be able to use the CHEXA "brick" element.
Thanks,
James

I want to add that recently Femap added a near bullet proof hex dominant mesher. I have been playing with it quite a bit. While it's slower, it's very robust and does a great job around small features. Please message me if you want more info.
I have just been watching the AU 2024 presentation about this and I must say it looks pretty promising. ![]()
