Fail/problem to connect Beam to beam nodes.

Hi,

My name is Matheus and we use Autodesk inventor nastran (2019) for some simulations here at my company.

I am trying to simulate a skid (Metallic beam structure), but for some reason, some beam nodes are not connected in the FE Simulation and consequently I cannot simulate what I want. I could not find a solution on Autdesk foruns or on Google search...

If Someone has any suggestion, that would be healpful...

Thanks

Hello @Anonymous ,

how is the skeleton sketch setup? Are the ends of the lines coincident with the longitudinal edge lines?

Also, could you "exclude from analysis" the skeleton sketch that is brought into Nastran In-CAD as a Part. Right click on "sck-skid:1" and select "exclude from analysis". This part is not needed for analysis, and can sometimes get in the way of selecting the FEA components to apply constraints and loads.

To have two line elements connected, they must share the same node. There are two ways to go here:

Adjust the element size of the mesh so that there is a node at the long line element, where the short line element start or end.

Or, IMHO the better solution, intersect the long beams where the short beams start or end.

Unfortunately there is no way to add a node manually to a beam grid, as far as i know. Nastran In-CAD is much weaker here than Inventor's Frame Analysis. Nastran In-CAD has other advantags against Inventor's Frame Analysis though. Maybe your task is solved easier in Inventor's Frame Analysis.
