How do I add a unit of (1) to a unitless dimension?

I need to write an equation for a unitless parameter that will allow me to take a different unitless parameter and add (1) to it.

It's for an pattern count, if I have 6 vertical supports, then the amount of angled supports will be the amount of vertical supports + 1
