Top Level Assembly Listed In Parts List

Top Level Assembly Listed In Parts List

I would like to see the option of including the top level assembly referenced by a parts list as a row inside of the Parts List or at least have the assembly's iProperties available to include somewhere within the heading. My drawings often include multiple parts lists and it would be nice to reference the assembly's part number (see attached image).

foxrid3r, this has been an issue for a long time in trying to get some functionality in the parts list enabling the assembly to which the BOM represents included in the parts list.  I posted a thread speaking to this about 3 years ago.  Some responses I got were why would I want to do that?  Like you are saying, some companies require that and in these cases, it has to be done manually by adding a line and thus taking away the parametric functionality.

I'd think a simple solution would be to just allow this to work just like it does for iproperties, etc...

That way upon parts list placement it would automatically update the title to show the top level part number..

To me having it be a row in the parts list is confusing.. But

As a solution now you could easily create a sketched symbol just like this..

and then turn off the "title" of the parts list in your styles and simply place that above the parts list on the sheet.

like this..

mcgyvr,

That's not a bad idea if your drawing has the same part number as your main assembly. The problem here is that our drawings typically have at least 4 BoMs, each with unique part numbers.

I agree with you, having the top level assembly in the part list in its own row is confusing, but that is what has been done here for years and the world might end if we were to ever change it. I would like to see iProperties from the top level assembly up in the header somewhere like you have depicted.

@Anonymous

If you only have 1 bom on each sheet (not drawing..each SHEET) my "workaround" works just fine..

But yes if you have more than 1 bom on a sheet then you are SOL..

And sorry you work somewhere that changes to procedures make the world fall apart.. must suck.. 🙂
