Dear Autodesk Community,
Idea Description: Currently, when creating component patterns in an assembly (e.g., circular, rectangular), Autodesk Inventor only allows a single shared model state for all patterned instances of a part or sub assembly.
This leads to several limitations:
- Patterned parts cannot have individually different model states.
- For variable or iterative patterns (e.g., fasteners with different lengths, seals with changing profiles, components with alternating features), users must create additional cumbersome workarounds.
- This increases model complexity, file count, and maintenance effort.
Proposed Enhancement:
Inventor should allow each instance in a component pattern to have its own independently assigned model state.
Proposed functionality:
- Each patterned instance of a part could offer an option in the browser such as
“Override Model State for Instance” - A small dialog would allow selecting any available model state for that specific instance.
- The pattern geometry and positions remain unchanged—only the model state varies.
- Optionally, users could define a list/array of model states when creating the pattern (e.g., Instance 1 → MS1, Instance 2 → MS2, etc.).
