Show feature dimensions when editing in an assembly without opening a sketch

Show feature dimensions when editing in an assembly without opening a sketch

I like to be able to edit parts from with an assembly and get to the dimensions needed quickly. Now I have to:

- Right klick on the part that needs editing

- Select edit

- Seletc the feature I want to edit

- Select edit sketch

- Double click to edit the dimension

- Return

I want to skip the bit of entering a sketch and exiting angain when I'm done. So what I need, is for the dimensions to show up when selecting the feature, so I can edit them directly. Like it's done in Solid Edge. It's a huge time saver!

In the feature tree...

You can double click edit the shown dimensions.

Although this is faster then what I used to do, this is not exactly what I had in mind. I want to the dimensions to show up as soon as I select the feature (LBM).

Your example:

- RMB on feature to be altered

- Select 'show dimensions' (extra step)

- Double click the dimension to edit

So my desired situation would be:

- LMB on feature to be altered

- dimensions would show up automatically (a mouse klick less)

- Double click the dimension to edit

The only issue with this for most people & probably for most work-flow would be that it would get very annoying every time you selected anything if its dims popped up. Maybe a long click option or something would be good. I do like the idea though.

You could add it to your marking menu (for features) actually. So right click drag to a position and boom, There's your dims. Though you will need to use the selection filter. This isn't an issue if you have your selection filter set to shortcut keys (I have all mine set to keys, vf(feature) etc).

I suppose you could even have show dimensions set as a keystroke too?
^not an option aparently!

I managed to add this instant show dimensions to my inventor add-in. All that it needs is one simple line of text.

You could build this in to any add-in.

InventorApp.CommandManager.ControlDefinitions.Item("PartShowDimensionsCtxCmd").Execute()

When I select any part feature in the model tree it brings up its dimensions in the model.
