Personally, I mostly disagree. I think Idea Station is an excellent and user friendly service for easily suggesting improvements to the software. But yes, there are some ideas that should never have been posted at all, but those I just simply ignore.
If they were improvements I would agree but most I have seen are asking for them to turn Inventor into Autocad.
If you like autocad so much keep using it..
I was glad when Inventor came out it worked so much better than Autocad but now the drafting board is looking better...
4 clicks added to a one click command is not an improvement....
65% of my clients are wondering why they made the switch... The others wish they never upgraded to Inventor 11, 12, never had them go to 13 and none on 14 yet. None of them want to upgrade anymore because every time they do there is extra clicks more crashes and have to relearn where all the command went again.
There was a time when they tried to make you buy Inventor to get AutoCad. If everyone had been able to try it because they had it anyway we wouldn't have Autodesk trying to appease them now in order to get them to choose Inventor when they go to 3D.
When they first came out with the Suite it was priced where just AutoCad would have been, some schmuck caved and made them come out with a discounted AutoCad only package. It cost them millions in the short term and created the messes like this that we have to deal with now.
Personally I blame improvements to the drawing environment - many years ago people would model in SolidWorks but detail in AutoCad - if you thought of Inventor as being something separate (if you still went to AutoCad to make drawings) you wouldn't need Inventor to be anything like AutoCad.
I think the IdeaStation is a good idea - the top ranked-and-accepted ideas are well thought out and presented. I think, though, it might be more productive if posters asked some basic "How can I do [this]" questions in the forum first before positing new features. As noted there may already be ways to get from here to there, and if not the extra feedback in the forum can refine the idea to where this type of haggling and headbutting isn't required.
I think the idea section helps Inventor to improve it. Even if some people don't know what they talking about, there are always people who do, and they can help make inventor better.
