PRECISION VALUE CONTROL IN BASE QUANTITY, ITEM QUANTITY AND MASS

it would be great if we can control precision values of BASE QUANTITY, ITEM QUANTITY AND MASS in inventor. due to the minor variations inventor shows roll up errors.

certainly! When dealing with large assemblies, managing bill of materials (BOM) can be challenging due to slight variations in part dimensions or mass. These variations often cause parts to appear separately in Autodesk Inventor or lead to roll-up errors.

i hope adjusting precision settings can be solve this issue. By setting a specific precision level—such as rounding dimensions to a certain decimal place or removing decimals altogether—you can ensure that parts with minor variations are grouped together in the BOM under a single part name with the correct quantity.

For instance, imagine an assembly with two frame parts: one is 100.15mm long and the other is 100.18mm long. Currently, these small differences cause them to be listed separately in the BOM. However, by setting the precision to zero, both lengths would round to 100mm, consolidating them into one entry with a quantity of two.

if it works i think this approach simplifies BOM management and reduces the time spent resolving discrepancies, especially in complex assemblies where such variations are common. It's important to note that this method can also be applied to variations in mass, ensuring consistency across all aspects of assembly documentation.

@ashiqueV3N9V now we provide the similar workflow in part list as the image below. But BOM has different mechanism here. We may format the precision of value, but we use the base quantity to count the info of BOM, which is defined in the document setting. I am not sure you have ever aware of it. As to length or mass, you could consider to define the user parameter using the precision format you prefer, and use the user parameter as base quantity.

@Yijiang.CaiThanks for the update. As suggested, I have updated the precision value in the document settings; however, it did not resolve the roll-up errors. If it does, it will be a huge problem since we are dealing with hundreds of members in our project. i would like to request a global setting to control the precision value for our project, as this would help manage roll-up errors more effectively.

Sometimes, Inventor shows roll-up errors even when the base quantities have the same precision. Please look at the picture: the first one is unmerged with the part number, while the second one is merged with the part number.

we have error in 3 structural parts
