Part: Extrusion: Output: New option: Intersect as new solid, keep the rest

Part: Extrusion: Output: New option: Intersect as new solid, keep the rest

Hello!

This is an idea for Extrusion und Revolution in parts.

There could be an additional option under Output:

It works like Intersect and Cut together.

The intersection is created as a new solid.
However, the existing solid remains, only the intersection is removed from it.

If you have a part that you want to split into individual parts, this would be extremely practical.

Best Regards,
Mathias

You can already do that, although you need two steps: First create a new solid, then combine it with the existing one. Subtract, but keep the tool body.

Agreed, it’s more clicks. But it also gives you more freedom since you could add additional features before combining the bodies.

Thanks RajSchmidt,

after 18 years of using Inventor every day, I was still unaware of the keep-the-tool-body-option.

Ok, and then the next additional step is to cut away the removed intersection from the original solid.

That works, of course. In my imagination, if you use this, you don't just want to create a single additional solid, but you want to split the original solid into lots of solids (individual parts).

This would be much faster with a single command and clearer in the model browser.
