Parameter Selection

Parameter Selection

When dimensioning, once the "Edit Dimension" box pops up is it possible it could be altered so that you could simply start typing the name of a known existing named parameter?

Better still, could you introduce a non-case sensitive combo box so that if you type, for example, "F" or "f" it would list all parameters that began with both "F" and "f"? Typing more of the Parameters letters could narrow the list further until you are potentially left with the parameter you were after, this could then either be clicked or selected by hitting "Enter".

It would also be good if this combo box (with less mouse clicks) approach could be integrated into commands such as Extrusion. In this situation you could immediately start typing the Parameter you were after in the "Distance" boxes.

Hi @TomSPPFB.  I know that some folks prefer to do as much as possible through their keyboard, some prefer to do as much as possible with their mouse instead, and for some it is through menus or ribbons, and so on.  I am one that prefers the mouse route, because I have a stationary mouse with a thumb ball, for maximum comfort and stability, and like to keep my other hand on a 3D mouse like the 3DConnexion SpaceMouse Pro, so I like using the already available functionality shown below (which you may already be aware of), but is very advantageous.

Most small numerical value editing text boxes include a small control at the right end that looks like a little arrow.  When we click that, it shows a small context menu, like in the image below.

I use this all the time, then either use the 'Measure' option, or the 'List Parameters' option.  When we click on the List Parameters option, it will show a small dialog with a list of 'renamed' parameters in it, like in the image below, so that we can just click one to insert its name into the text editor box.  I use that functionality pretty much every day, as often as applicable, due to its convenience, and the way I like to design things by building the 'expressions' right into the parameters as I design.  Since I know that the value I am currently entering will be represented by a parameter, I also often include the name that I want that parameter to be called, then the equals sign, followed by the expression, to specify and clarify even more design intent and control as I go.

For me, this may add a couple more clicks, but avoids me having to take my hands off the 'steering wheel' (2D mouse & 3D mouse) to type stuff in, since I can just select the parameter instead.
